Characterization of Research Training in Professional Public Accounting Programs in Cali, Colombia

Currently, research is one of the primary tasks in higher education. Through research, universities can improve their academic quality and meet the required standards, as well as contribute to objectives such as fostering innovation, advancing scientific knowledge, and reducing the gap between theory and practice in the accounting discipline. In this way, it is possible to provide solutions to problems identified within the discipline.

This study examines research training in professional Accounting programs at universities in Cali. First, it identifies the curricula offered by these programs, including their research components. Second, it analyzes the guidelines established to promote research within academic training and research skills development among future accounting professionals. The study adopts a qualitative methodology, which made it possible to use instruments to gather the perspectives of students, faculty members, and graduates from the participating institutions.
