The Villa: Or the story of an aeolian love
In this work presented by Jorge Iván, the story is told by four narrators at four different moments, each with their own style and limitations. It is the presentation of the event called The Villa from different viewpoints and contexts. Without realizing it, the family history that starts as a transcription of diary notes evolves into the history of a town, a history of travels, and a one-way epistolary exchange. The 'I' blends with the 'we' and 'they' until they are indistinguishable from a simple "there is," "happens," "has happened." It is a puzzle in which what is explicitly said is only a pretext to conceal something else, something unnamable, as if "every sound is there to reveal a silence," as Cage would say. And it is in that vacuum of meaning that we, as readers, enter to complete the story, to imagine what has become of those characters, to play the role of another narrator in the unfinished fabric that is this novella, which confronts us with the fact that, no matter how we try to tell something, the possibility of understanding an event depends on the reconstruction of the different stories generated by each observer, each actor. And yet, the sense remains absent.
