Current Debates on Regions, Regional Integration, and Globalization

This book reviews, thinks and updates the most recent debates on regions within the framework of the globalization process. It provides academic content by enquiring on the regions and the regionness in the globalization context up to 2021, and by observing their marches and counter-marches; in the increasingly uncertain and tense world resulting with the advent of global sars -Cov-2 pandemic. The book consists of three parts. The first part is about global regions; the second considers the region in the processes of regional integration and regionalism in a global perspective, and the third is dedicated to transborder regions. As a whole, the book offers a spectrum of empirical studies as well as theoretical interpretations that, even though do not represent a unitary vision of the phenomenon and the renewed interaction between globalization, regional integration, regionalism, region and regionness; they allow the observation from different perspectives that contribute to shed light about its complexity and about future scenarios as an economic and political process in constant revision. In this volume there are elements that help understand the appropriate deepness of changes and we offer them to the readers hoping to motivate knowledge about the region in the micro and macro levels. The expression of regional thought is changing and its analysis is likely to influence its development and evolution. Therefore, in this work, part of that need is advanced, as a prominent place is given to the region within the respective disciplines. And, the authors who have attended the invitation approach the subject with the property of their scientific discipline and their area of expertise. They analyze and explain changes, rationale and characteristics of the region in globalization.
