Mercosur in the New Latin American Scenario

This book aims to analyze the role of Mercosur as a vector of Latin American integration. To this end, it analyzes the South American regional bloc's trade and cooperation relations with other blocs such as the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), the European Union (EU), and the Pacific Alliance. It is studied the efforts to liberalize e-commerce in Latin American integration processes, Venezuelan migration to Mercosur member and partner countries, South-South cooperation in Latin America, regional integration as a mechanism for sustainable development in Latin America, harmonization, and potential convergence of tax systems between Mercosur and the Pacific Alliance, and the context of depoliticization of post-liberal regionalism and the prospects for repoliticization. The results highlight that Mercosur, due to the time elapsed since its creation, its characteristics, its composition, and the type of relationship with the rest of the world, acquires a relevant role as a unifier of forces that lead it to become a central actor in the future of Latin American integration.
