Systematic reviews of scientific literature: Theoretical research as a principle for the development of basic and applied science

This book aims to describe the conceptual, historical and methodological foundations of systematic reviews and present some operating details related with four review typologies: i) systematic reviews without meta analysis; ii) meta-analyses of observational studies; iii) meta-analyses of controlled clinical trials; and iv) meta-analysis of diagnostic tests. The book is developed in four basic thematic lines, including theoretical aspects of systematic reviews; performance of systematic reviews and meta-analyses; examples and operating details; and dissemination or presentation of results. The content of this book proves to be of great value due to the increasing number of publications on systematic reviews and meta-analysis requiring critical reading and rigorous knowledge of their methodological complexity, added to an increase in the production of original studies, and prevents the reader from being updated or moderately informed of research progress in their area of knowledge to direct their praxis. The text manages to present this research modality rigorously; further, it helps researchers, students, professionals of different areas, professors, among other users, to have valid, accurate, updated and appropriate information to guide research formulation or decision making in multiple contexts, that is, theoretical research as a principle of basic and applied research.
