New sources of productivity: Perspective in Latin America

The processes of globalization and internationalization of the markets and economies of the countries have made the international global society understand that the world of the 21st century is made up of rich and poor countries, that is, developed countries and developing countries. The marked difference between the two economic blocks was the question that one and the other asked. The answer to the question was shown beyond the literal reading of the texts, in the abductive reading of the dynamics of the global historical contexts of economic, educational, institutional, cultural development, social capital, as well as science, the technology and innovation (ST&I) in each country and region. On one side, there were the lived empirical realities of each country, which, through the economic, social, cultural, technological, and institutional experiences of the people, who expressed the experiences in each space and in each time. On the other hand, there is the science that, also over time, has been showing with knowledge and scientific evidence, the realities of the differences between developing and developed countries. Certainly, humanity in the last two and a half centuries has had a technological and knowledge generation dynamic, unprecedented in its history. Dynamics caused by the quantum leaps of the last three industrial revolutions, where the production of knowledge favored by the levels of education of people has generated hypergeometric volumes of it. A fact that has led to a dynamic acceleration of technological innovations, not predicted before. The purpose of the book as a whole was to carry out a theoretical, statistical and econometric analysis of what has been called in the last four decades by developed countries as the new sources of productivity in Latin America, in relation to productivity and competitiveness. The Scopus digital bibliographic databases facilitated the search of international and national literature, and the databases of the World Economic Forum, the World Bank and Transparency International were the source of the statistical information. The results presented the real state of Latin America in the variables of human capital, information, and communication technologies (ICT), innovation, and institutions, as well as the progress of the region on the subject of knowledge management. The book concluded by showing the strong lags in Latin America in terms of quality in education (human capital), ict, Innovation, with quality failures in the extractive and non-inclusive institutions that may be affecting the productivity and competitiveness of the region.
